Sustainable publishing, packaging and distribution for print magazines
Balancing the appeal of a beautifully designed magazine with a commitment to environmental responsibilities is central to many brand publications today.
Sustainable publishing, packaging and distribution
Dialogue has evolved a best practice process for sustainable publishing which helps reduce the environmental impact of creating and delivering content without compromising on quality or creativity.
This end-to-end approach encompasses all stages of the content creation process, as well as the physical manufacturing and distribution of a magazine.

Eco-conscious content creation
When sourcing freelance specialists for features – such as journalists, photographers and videographers – we identify tried and tested individuals who are local to where an interviewee lives or a shoot is taking place to reduce unnecessary travel. Our content and creative teams have developed an extensive portfolio of specialists across the globe in support this.
Planet-friendly packaging
To distribute magazines, we have adopted the use of PEFC-certified paper wrap for most of the titles we publish. Paper recycling is far more accessible to households than plastic recycling and food waste bins or compost heaps to dispose of compostable potato starch film. Paper wrap also eliminates the need for a separate carrier sheet as the information required is printed directly onto the wrap, reducing the volume of additional packaging.
Distribution solutions
Print and fulfilment of our magazines is usually carried out on a single site, eliminating the environmental impact of transporting magazines from one location to another. If fulfilment does need to take place at a different location, we will always consider the distance from the printer and opt for a local supplier.
Digital options
We use digital solutions to replace paper methods where appropriate, such as implementing online portals to review proofs or supplying digital magazine file copies to advertisers and contributing writers instead of mailing hard copies.
Sustainable printing
We promote and encourage the use of sustainable (PEFC or FSC-certified) or recycled paper stock manufactured in European mills. We work with our print suppliers to fully understand their environmental activities to help our clients make informed choices.
When appointing a new print supplier, we check their environmental credentials – what accreditations do they hold, do they use vegetable inks, recycle their printing plates or use renewable energy? These are all considered before they are added to our roster.
